  • News

On March 4, 2025, Dr. Eva Langerbeck, Chief Representative & Executive Director of the German Trade Office Taipei, attended the official inauguration of the Yunlin Offshore Wind Farm (OWF). With a total capacity of 640 MW, the Yunlin OWF is now fully operational, marking a significant achievement in Taiwan’s clean energy transition.

The inauguration ceremony, held at Santiaolun Beach & Water Park in Yunlin County, brought together key industry representatives and government officials, including Cynthia Kiang, Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs, and Patrick Lammers, CEO of Skyborn Renewables. Also in attendance were representatives from Taiwan’s Energy Administration, the Ocean Affairs Council, and joint venture partners such as TotalEnergies, Sojitz Corporation, and EGCO.

Advancing Taiwan’s Offshore Wind Capabilities

Developed by Skyborn Renewables in collaboration with its partners, the Yunlin OWF consists of 80 wind turbines spread across an 82 km² project area, located 8-17 km off Taiwan’s west coast. The project supplies clean energy to over 600,000 households through a 20-year power purchase agreement with Taiwan Power Company (TPC). It is also one of the first offshore wind farms in Taiwan to incorporate locally manufactured components, strengthening Taiwan’s domestic supply chain in renewable energy.

Germany’s Role in Taiwan’s Energy Transition

Germany has been a longstanding partner in Taiwan’s renewable energy sector, with German companies actively contributing expertise in offshore wind, smart grid technology, and energy storage solutions. The Yunlin OWF underscores the strong bilateral cooperation in sustainable energy development.

Future Outlook

Following the commercial operations date (COD) in June 2025, TotalEnergies will take over the technical operations management, while Skyborn Renewables will continue overseeing other management aspects. As Taiwan continues to expand its offshore wind capacity, projects like Yunlin OWF serve as cornerstones for the island’s energy transition.

The German Trade Office Taipei congratulates Skyborn Renewables and its partners on this remarkable achievement and looks forward to supporting further developments in Taiwan’s offshore wind and green energy sector.
