As the FIFA World Cup fuels excitement among football fans around the globe, the German Trade Office Taipei (GTO) combined Germany’s passion for football with a commitment to social responsibility by hosting the 4th German Company Charity Soccer Tournament today at Taipei Gymnasium. This year, nine German companies and organizations in Taiwan formed teams and came together for an exciting five-a-side football competition.

Continuing the tournament’s charitable tradition, every goal scored translated into a donation of NT$1,000, with all proceeds donated to Taiwan Sunshine, a non-profit organization supporting children with special needs and their families in Taiwan through care, encouragement, and family support services. This year’s tournament raised a total of NT$140,000, which was formally presented to the organization during an on-site donation ceremony.

Dr. Eva Langerbeck, Chief Representative and Executive Director of the GTO, stated “Now in its fourth year, the German Company Charity Soccer Tournament continues to demonstrate how businesses can come together to make a positive impact on society. This event is more than just a soccer competition—it is a platform that unites companies, employees, and communities around a common cause. Through every pass and every goal, we hope to bring support and encouragement to families in need while showcasing the long-standing commitment of German companies in Taiwan to social responsibility.”

Founded in 2009, Taiwan Sunshine is dedicated to supporting families of children with special needs across Taiwan. Through family support programs, educational resources, community activities, and ongoing care initiatives, the organization helps parents build confidence while promoting greater understanding and inclusion of children with special needs within society. Over the years, Taiwan Sunshine has worked closely with schools, hospitals, and community partners to create a more supportive environment where every child can thrive.

Dr. Uwe Maurer, Director of Taiwan Sunshine, commented “We sincerely thank the GTO and all participating companies for their generous support of families with special needs children. For many families, what matters most is not only access to resources but also the feeling of being understood and accepted. This tournament demonstrates how businesses can make a meaningful difference through concrete action while raising awareness of the challenges and needs these families face. Every contribution helps families and children move forward with greater confidence and hope.”

The tournament officially kicked off in the morning as the nine participating teams entered the venue to enthusiastic applause, embodying both sportsmanship and a shared commitment to giving back. The tournament consisted of a round-robin stage followed by knockout rounds, with teams competing for both sporting success and a meaningful charitable cause. After a full day of exciting matches, German Trade Office Taipei claimed the championship title, while TRUMPF Taiwan finished as runner-up and TÜV SÜD secured third place. In total, 140 goals were scored throughout the tournament, directly contributing to support for families of children with special needs.

Since its inception, the German Company Charity Soccer Tournament has combined sports, philanthropy, and corporate social responsibility, providing a unique platform for German companies in Taiwan to come together and make a positive impact. This year’s event once again highlighted the power of collective action and raised awareness of the needs of children with special needs and their families. The GTO looks forward to continuing its collaboration with corporate partners and charitable organizations to create meaningful opportunities to support Taiwanese society in the years ahead.
