The German Trade Office Taipei successfully hosted the 3rd German Charity Soccer Tournament on September 12 at the Taipei Gymnasium. This year, 12 German companies formed teams to compete in an exciting series of five-a-side soccer matches. Under the rule of “NTD 1,000 donation per goal,” all proceeds were donated to the Raising Children Medical Foundation, which is dedicated to improving Taiwan’s pediatric healthcare by subsidizing medical expenses for critically ill children and building child-friendly hospital spaces nationwide. In total, this year’s tournament raised NTD 223,000, which was presented to the foundation on-site.

Dr. Eva Langerbeck, Chief Representative and Executive Director of the German Trade Office Taipei, stated: “Our Charity Soccer Tournament is not only about sports competition but also a concrete demonstration of German companies’ solidarity and social responsibility in Taiwan. Through this event, employees can stand side by side on the field and, at the same time, join forces off the field to support children’s health. We hope this tournament will continue to serve as an important platform that combines sports, charity, and corporate social responsibility.”

Founded in 2002, the Raising Children Medical Foundation is Taiwan’s only non-profit organization dedicated to child-friendly healthcare. The foundation is committed to providing medical subsidies for critically ill and disadvantaged children, while promoting the concept of “child-friendly medicine” to create a care environment centered on children’s needs, where young patients feel respected and at ease throughout the treatment process. Ms. Charlotte Chen, Co-founder of the Raising Children Medical Foundation, also remarked: “We are grateful to the German Trade Office Taipei and all participating companies for turning every goal into real support for children. While the matches are short, the impact of accompanying children as they grow up with courage is long-lasting. The Raising Children Medical Foundation sincerely thanks everyone for bringing hope through action.”

The tournament opened in the morning with the ceremonial entry of all 12 participating teams, accompanied by children who share a passion for soccer, symbolizing the charitable spirit behind the event. Each match lasted 15 minutes, with teams giving their all for both honor and goodwill. After a series of intense games, the championship title went to TRUMPF, the runner-up was awarded to Tianmu United, and German Trade Office Taipei secured third place. In addition, this year’s “Top Scoring Team” award, which went to Tianmu United for scoring the highest total number of goals — 54 in total — showcasing their outstanding teamwork and determination.

The German Trade Office emphasized that the Charity Soccer Tournament once again underlined the strong engagement of German companies in Taiwan and showcased the positive social impact that can be created when sports and charity come together. Looking ahead, the office expressed hope that more companies and individuals will join in future editions, working together to improve pediatric healthcare in Taiwan.
