The Pingtung site, which specializes in high-performance polyester resins for powder coatings, will be represented by Site Manager CF Tsai, who shared insights on the plant's innovative "oil-to-gas conversion" and "waste heat recovery" projects that have substantially reduced the facility's carbon footprint while enhancing operational efficiency.
"Our sustainability transformation is fully aligned with Covestro's global commitment to achieve Scope 1 and 2 climate neutrality by 2035," said CF Tsai, Site Manager of Covestro Pingtung Site. "With subsidy support from the Industrial Development Administration, Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), we carried out a project to convert high-energy thermal oil boilers to natural gas and implement waste heat recovery systems, successfully reducing our annual carbon emissions by 17% while improving heating efficiency by 10%." The presentation will emphasize how these improvements address environmental challenges while simultaneously enhancing product quality and operational performance.
"Low-carbon transformation is not merely an environmental responsibility but one of the key strategies for our global market competitiveness," further emphasized Annie Chen, Managing Director of Covestro Taiwan. "As international customers increasingly prioritize sustainable manufacturing processes, Pingtung plant's successful transformation demonstrates how Covestro integrates environmental sustainability with business value. We believe this innovation-driven sustainable development model will create long-term win-win outcomes for both business and the environment."
In addition to hardware upgrades, the Pingtung site has implemented smart manufacturing processes and AI-powered data analytics, reducing daily data processing time from two hours to just ten minutes. This digital transformation enables more efficient energy utilization, optimized production scheduling, and establishes a foundation for future AI machine learning applications.
The forum gathered over 200 representatives from industrial parks across Taiwan, government officials, and academic experts to exchange experiences and best practices in sustainable transformation. Covestro's presentation will be featured alongside other industry leaders in the event's "Low-Carbon Transformation" segment.
