The festive German Christmas Markets will officially open this Friday at the Yuanshan Expo Park in Taipei, followed by vibrant celebrations at New Taipei City’s Christmasland (December 5–7) and Taoyuan Arts Plaza (December 13–14). This year marks the markets’ first-ever expansion to Taoyuan, connecting three cities across northern Taiwan to recreate the warm and joyful atmosphere of Germany’s most beloved winter tradition.

Originating in the Middle Ages, Germany’s Weihnachtsmarkt has a history of more than seven centuries and remains one of the most cherished customs of the holiday season. To share this long-standing cultural heritage with Taiwan, the German Trade Office Taipei (GTO) has hosted the German Christmas Markets annually since 2020 bringing authentic German food, music, and festive cheer to Taiwan. In 2025, the event extends beyond Taipei and New Taipei City to Taoyuan, bringing authentic German food, music, and holiday cheer to even more visitors.

Dr. Eva Langerbeck, Chief Representative and Executive Director of the German Trade Office Taipei, said, “For Germans, Christmas is as significant as the Lunar New Year is for Taiwanese—it’s a time for family reunion and sharing joy. Through the German Christmas Markets, we hope to foster cultural exchange and allow more people to experience Germany’s festive traditions. This year, we are especially thrilled to bring the markets to Taoyuan for the first time, spreading the warmth and happiness of the season to even more communities.”

The first event, opening on November 28 at Yuanshan Expo Park, will feature nearly 90 booths offering a wide array of European foods and holiday merchandise. Visitors can enjoy German classics such as Bratwurst, Currywurst, Stollen, Glühwein (mulled wine), and Kinderpunsch (non-alcoholic mulled punch), as well as imported beers, pastries, and collectible mugs. The festive scene—complete with twinkling lights and holiday music—will transform the venue into a charming European winter village. Guests can also join a stamp collection raffle for a chance to win a China Airlines round-trip ticket from Taipei to Frankfurt, along with many other exciting prizes.

A major highlight this year is the participation of a German city for the first time in the Taipei market. The cultural capital of Saxony, Dresden, will bring the spirit of Europe’s oldest Christmas market, the “Striezelmarkt,” to Taiwan. Visitors can stop by the Dresden booth to join the “#TaiwanMeetsDresden” Instagram campaign—snap a photo at the booth, post it on Instagram Stories, tag @VisitDresden, and share why they’d like to visit the city for a chance to win travel vouchers and receive exclusive Dresden-themed gifts.

Following Taipei, the German Christmas Market at New Taipei City’s Christmasland will open on December 5, joining one of Taiwan’s most popular holiday destinations. This year’s Christmasland is themed “Circus Carnival”, created in collaboration with the world-renowned LINE FRIENDS & LINE FRIENDS minini characters. Adorable installations will transform Banqiao into a winter wonderland. Amid the dazzling lights and festive music, the German Christmas Market will feature authentic German sausages, mulled wine, and holiday treats—offering visitors the perfect combination of cheerful celebration and European flavors.

One of this year’s most anticipated additions is the German Christmas Market in Taoyuan, taking place at the Taoyuan Arts Plaza from December 13 to 14. Centered around family and community, the Taoyuan market will blend local features with authentic German Christmas charm, allowing residents to experience the magic of a traditional German market close to home. In addition to authentic German cuisine and specialty products, Audi Taiwan will once again join the festivities for the third consecutive year, with the theme “Audi Joyful Christmas Rendezvous”, at both Taipei and Taoyuan Christmas Markets. Visitors can admire Audi’s stunning car models, take part in interactive activities to redeem limited-edition gifts, and shop from the Audi collection, adding a touch of modern elegance to the festive atmosphere.

The 2025 German Christmas Markets are organized by DEinternational Taiwan Ltd., the service unit of the German Trade Office Taipei, with support from Audi Taiwan, Sino-German Cultural and Economic Association, Franz Collection, Dresden Marketing GmbH and other partners. Across three cities, the events will offer an authentic celebration of German flavors, music, and culture—bringing a touch of Europe’s most enchanting holiday spirit to Taiwan.
