Taipei, Taiwan – A German photonics industry delegation is visiting Taiwan from November 10 to 14, 2025, bringing together ten leading German companies specializing in laser technology, optical components, and precision metrology. The delegation trip is carried out on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) as part of a project-based funding measure within the Market Entry Program for SMEs. The event is jointly organized by DEinternational Taiwan Ltd., the service unit of the German Trade Office Taipei and the German Industry Association for Optics, Photonics, Analytical and Medical Technologies (SPECTARIS). An industry conference and B2B meetings held earlier this week further strengthened bilateral cooperation between Germany and Taiwan in the photonics and laser technology sectors.
Taiwan has become a major hub for photonics and laser technologies in Asia, combining cutting-edge research with a strong spirit of innovation. German companies, known for their engineering excellence and technological innovation, hold a strong competitive position in photonics, laser, and sensing applications. The complementary strengths between Taiwan and Germany open new opportunities for collaboration in semiconductors, smart manufacturing, and medical optics.
Dr. Eva Langerbeck, Chief Representative and Executive Director of the German Trade Office Taipei, stated: “Taiwan’s photonics industry continues to thrive, with a production value reaching EUR 61 billion in 2023, accounting for 7% of global output. The photonics applications segment grew by 44% year-on-year, reflecting the sector’s rapid evolution. As Taiwan advances in semiconductors and smart manufacturing, photonics and laser technologies will play a key role in boosting precision and performance. With decades of experience in photonics production and Industry 4.0 solutions, German companies are well positioned to achieve innovative outcomes together with Taiwan.”
During the visit, the delegation will hold individual meetings with several prominent Taiwanese companies and research institutions, including Asia Optical Control Optics etc. Through discussions and site visits, the delegation aims to gain deeper insights into Taiwan’s latest trends in the photonics and semiconductor industries and explore future cooperation opportunities.
Photonics technology is a key driver shaping the future of industrial manufacturing. Germany and Taiwan both stand at the forefront of this field, sharing core values of open markets and high-quality production. Amid global industrial transformation and rising geopolitical challenges, closer German–Taiwanese cooperation in advanced technologies will not only enhance the resilience of both industries but also inject new momentum into the regional economy.
The ten participating German companies are: Codixx AG, Cutting Edge Coatings GmbH, Docter Optics SE, Eagleyard Photonics GmbH, Grättinger Möhring von Poschinger Patentanwälte Partnerschaft mbB, Leistungselektronik Jena GmbH, MERSEN Deutschland GmbH & Co KG / Geschäftsbereich optoSiC, Optotech GmbH, Scanlab GmbH, WinWinTec International GmbH.
