Dresden, the capital of the German state of Saxony, is Europe’s leading semiconductor hub, boasting a complete ecosystem of manufacturing, R&D, and innovation. With the establishment of the European Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (ESMC)—a joint venture of TSMC, Infineon, Bosch, and NXP—in Dresden, bilateral cooperation in chip manufacturing has grown even closer. In addition, TSMC recently announced the establishment of a chip design center in Munich, which will support European customers in developing high-performance chips for electric vehicles, autonomous driving systems, and the industrial IoT. These investments not only highlight Germany’s strategic position in Europe’s semiconductor supply chain but also underscore the critical role of SMEs in the global value chain.
To further deepen bilateral cooperation, DEinternational Taiwan Ltd.—the service unit of the German Trade Office Taipei—once again joins forces with Silicon Saxony e.V., Europe’s largest microelectronics and smart systems cluster, to present the German Pavilion at the opening of SEMICON Taiwan 2025 today at Nangang Exhibition Center. This year, the German Pavilion has reached a new record, growing 20% compared to last year, and brings together 18 German companies at Booth J2754, showcasing the latest technologies in semiconductor manufacturing processes, chip processing, material solutions, and testing. During the three-day exhibition, a series of industry forums will be held, and a German-style Happy Hour networking event will take place daily at 3:00 p.m. A special Saxony-themed Happy Hour will be held on September 10. Industry leaders and partners are warmly invited to attend.
Dr. Eva Langerbeck, Chief Representative and Executive Director of the German Trade Office Taipei, stated: “German companies possess strong expertise in areas such as silicon wafers, specialty chemicals, gases, optics, and laser applications, and have long played a vital role in the global semiconductor supply chain. Taiwan, on the other hand, offers a dynamic technology ecosystem that provides abundant opportunities for German companies in semiconductor equipment, AI-enabled industrial solutions, and smart manufacturing technologies. The Taiwanese government’s active promotion of AI talent development and software innovation has opened the door to joint training programs and collaborative applied research. By combining the complementary strengths of Germany and Taiwan, we can drive innovation, co-develop new applications, and expand into international markets. Through the German Pavilion’s showcases and exchanges, we look forward to deepening cooperation in semiconductors and AI, and jointly advancing sustainable technological development worldwide.”
Mr. Dirk Panter, Saxon State Minister for Economic Affairs, Labour, Energy and Climate Action “The Semicon is the perfect stage to highlight Saxony’s role as Europe’s leading semiconductor location. TSMC’s commitment has given our ecosystem a global boost. With currently Germany’s largest construction site in Dresden and decades of experience and efficiency in implementing large-scale investments, we offer stability, reliability, innovation, and strong opportunities for international partners. Silicon Saxony, based in Dresden and beyond, is Europe’s largest microelectronics cluster – a true driver of Europe’s technological sovereignty and geopolitical credibility. These are the reasons why we warmly invite further suppliers to join this success story. Together we can strengthen our value chains, expand our innovation capacity, and ensure that our economies remain resilient and future-proof.“
