Taipei, Taiwan – A delegation of industry experts and company representatives for media content, distribution and digital technologies from North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), Germany, is visiting Taipei from March 24 to 28, 2025. Comprising representatives from 16 German companies across the media, television production, broadcasting, telecommunications, and streaming sectors, the delegation met with Taiwanese government agencies and related companies to focus on innovative strategies and technological developments in media and digital technologies, while exploring potential opportunities for future collaboration between the two sides.
Dr. Eva Langerbeck, Chief Representative and Executive Director of the German Trade Office Taipei, stated: “North Rhine-Westphalia is a key economic hub in Germany, with a highly competitive media and film industry on the global stage. This visit will not only strengthen Taiwan-Germany cooperation in the fields of digital media and technology but also deepen exchanges in innovation and market development. We look forward to fostering tangible business opportunities and technological partnerships that will drive industry growth and development.”
With a population of 18 million, NRW is located at the heart of Europe and is Germany’s largest economic region. Within a 500-kilometer radius of its capital, Düsseldorf, more than 160 million people reside. NRW is home to 25,000 media and telecommunications companies, employing approximately 425,000 professionals, with an annual turnover of 125 billion euros. This makes NRW Germany’s leading media and creative industry hub and one of the most influential media centers in Europe.
The delegation covered a wide range of exchange topics, including film production and content, media distribution, television and streaming platforms, and virtual reality. By establishing networks and partnerships with Taiwanese companies, the delegation aimed to promote the exchange of insights on technological trends and future developments related to artificial intelligence, media, and the digital society.
During their visit, in addition to hosting the Business and Technology Forum NRW – Taiwan: “Media Content and Digital Technologies”, and engaging with potential partners, the delegation also met with several leading Taiwanese media and tech companies, including the Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA), Taipei Film Commission, TVBS, Chunghwa Telecom, Eastern Broadcasting Company, and HTC.
Delegation members showed strong interest in TAICCA’s IP investment in the creative industries and the Taiwan Creative Content Fest (TCCF). Discussions also addressed how traditional media view advertisers shifting to digital platforms, how journalists use AI tools, as well as the popularity of streaming platforms and the distribution of original content in both markets. Through in-depth exchanges, the delegation hopes to explore opportunities for collaboration in content production, technology application, and market expansion.
Through this visit, NRW seeks not only to establish closer ties with Taiwan in the media and technology sectors but also to provide a platform for business exchange, further promoting bilateral industry growth. NRW.Global Business, the official trade and investment agency of NRW, plays a crucial role in fostering international collaboration and economic development. It is dedicated to helping businesses expand into global markets and find the best strategic partners. This visit will further strengthen Taiwan-Germany economic relations and lay a solid foundation for future cooperation.
