TAIPEI, Taiwan – On November 16th, 2021, the German Trade Office Taipei (GTO) organized a one-day educational activity with eight German companies at the San-Wei Elementary School in Kaohsiung.

As the official representative of the German economy in Taiwan, the GTO aimed to display the corporate social responsibilities taken by companies through practical activities. For the first time, the GTO brought German companies into a school to carry out fun and educational activities that hopefully will set an example for other companies. Kaohsiung is an ideal location for many German companies; therefore, San-Wei Elementary School was chosen to cultivate Kaohsiung and its youths to connect with the international community. The eight German companies that signed up for this event designed a specific curriculum according to their industries, striving to pass on their corporate social business philosophy to the next generation.

Aside from GTO’s Chief Representative and Executive Director Mr. Axel Limberg and the principal of San-Wei Elementary School Mr. Po-Chien Tzeng, Director General of Education Bureau from Kaohsiung City Government Dr. Wen-Pin Hsieh also joined on the GTO CSR Day to show their support for the CSR activities by German companies.

Mr. Limberg stated in his speech: “German companies are deeply embedded in Taiwan’s society. They are aware of their corporate responsibilities and actively give something back to the society. Our recently published CSR Guide collects exemplary CSR activities of over 20 German companies and is intended to prompt others to initiate their own CSR activities. Organizing one whole day focused on CSR activities was the logical next step for us. We are very delighted that eight German companies joined us and carried out fantastic educational and sporting activities with the children.”

During the CSR Day, the GTO introduced Germany and German culture to the students through fun coloring and paper-cutting activities; Covestro told children stories about marine conservation; Bosch helped the students understand the impact of climate change and carbon footprints on Earth; Remondis used group games to help children learn about waste recycling; Merck conducted chemical experiments with fifth and sixth graders; BASF let students experience the wonders of chemistry and understand the importance of environmental protection through experiments; Wpd laid the foundation of green energy education for students through hands-on activities; and Borussia Academy Taipei offered some soccer lessons to the students.
