Supply Chain Act Service
In June of 2021, the German parliament passed the new “Supply Chain Due Diligence Act” (German: Lieferkettensorgfaltspflichtengesetz). This law requires companies to identify, prevent, and address human rights and environmental abuses within their own and their direct suppliers’ operations. Companies must monitor their own operations and their direct suppliers worldwide and are obliged to take action if they find any violation.
Overview
The law has been passed and will come into effect in 2023, applying to companies with workforce of more than 3000 employees. From 2024 onwards, the law will apply to companies that employ more than 1000 employees. Furthermore, the law is not limited to German companies located in Germany, but also affects their foreign branches and overseas suppliers. Thus, companies are advised to start reviewing their supply chain immediately.
