Europe’s first Drone Port opens in Hamburg
In June 2024, the Port of Hamburg opened Droneport, Europe's first ground control center for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). This facility will aid the Hamburg Police and other authorities in tasks such as search and rescue, traffic control, and infrastructure inspection.
In the future Drones will be increasingly important for logistics as well as B2B courier deliveries or Trafficmanagment.

Hamburg Airport will Use Quantum Computing to enhance daily Operations
The Institute for Quantum Physics at University of Hamburg and Lufthansa Industry Solutions are developing quantum algorithms to solve the so-called airport gate assignment problem. The gate assignment problem refers to the task of efficiently allocating gates to flights, aiming to optimize operations. This initiative marks the first use of quantum technology for this purpose worldwide. The project is part of the larger Quantum Computing Initiative which aims to develop Hamburg into a Hub for the use and development of Quantum Technology.

startup Camm Solutions develops microplastic free packaging solution
Camm Solutions, a Hamburg based Startup has innovated a biodegradable plastic that eliminates microplastic pollution. This newly developed material is used to produce cups and other packaging while avoiding negative impacts on the environment. According to the Company’s founder the technology is already market ready and scalable. The startup is already cooperating with logistics companies from Europe and the US and aims to get to the point where their products have a negative CO2 impact.

Abandoned Coal Plant becomes Green Hydrogen Hub
The project “Hamburg Green Hydrogen Hub” , backed by hamburger Energiewerke and energy consultant Luxcara will see the decommissioned Coal fire plant being transformed into a 100-million-watt electrolyser. The project is subsidized with 154 million euro by the German government and the City of Hamburg. One of the main prospects for Hamburg is that this project can possibly boost the City’s transition to green energy by establishing a hydrogen production hub.
