On September 22 we held the 21st German-Taiwanese Joint Business Council (JBC) together with CIECA, the Bureau of Foreign Trade (MOEA) and the Taiwan Committee of German Business. It was the first JBC that took place in Germany after the pandemic, and the first time that it took place at the premises of the Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry (DIHK) in the heart of Berlin.

The JBC was opened by Co-Chairmen Mr. Dirk Saenger, Managing Partner at Melchers, and Mr. Jimmy Chu, Chairman at Fair Friend Group (FFG). Special guests were Dr. Franziska Brantner, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action and Member of the German Bundestag, and Mr. Chern-Chyi Chen, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

Dr. Volker Treier, Chief Executive of Foreign Trade and Member of the Executive Board, German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DIHK), and our director Mr. Axel Limberg moderated two discussion rounds that discussed the resilience of the semiconductor supply chains and future cooperation possibilities between Germany and Taiwan. Among others, the discussion rounds featured Dr. Wolfgang Weber, CEO of the German Electro and Digital Industry Association (ZVEI), and Mr. Johnson Y.H. Chiang, Industrialization Director of the Chip Technology & Design Division at the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI). Representatives from leading German companies in the semiconductor sector such as SÜSS MicroTec SE and Linde Electronics also shared their insights with the participants.

We thank all participants for their great commitment and are looking forward to next year’s JBC!
